Weather in Pakistan
Pakistan is subject to a continental climate, with a large variation in temperatures. Along the coast, the climate is modified by the sea breezes. In the remainder of the country temperatures rise steeply in the summer, with the hot loo winds blowing across the plains. The temperatures are lowered frequently by these winds, which cause dust and thunder storms. Although Pakistan is situated in a monsoon region, it is dry except in the Himalayas which have a rainfall 760 to 1280mm a year. During the summer months the temperatures in the plains may reach up to 45 degrees. May to August are the hottest months. The monsoon season begins in July through to august with an average rainfall of 500mm in the plains to 2000mm in the lower Himalayas.
CLOTHING: during the summer months cotton or light weight linen, with warmer clothing for visiting the northern area. Cocktail dresses will be required for evening wear and men will be required to wear a tie. Women should avoid wearing sun dresses or miniskirts. A raincoat would be very useful during the monsoon months. Nylon clothing may be very uncomfortable during the hot months in Pakistan. In the winter light woolen clothing would be advisable in the plains, but warmer woolen garments should be worn in hilly regions.
