Weather in Iran
Iran is situated in southwestern Asia and includes a dozen islands in the Persian Gulf. Iran's complex climate ranges from subtropical to sub polar. Temperatures vary from a high of 51 degrees in Khuzestan at the head of the Persian Gulf to a low of -37c degrees in Azerbaijan in the northwest. Precipitation varies widely from less than 50mm in the southeast to about 1950mm in the Caspian region. Winter is normally the rainy season for the whole country. Frequent spring thunderstorms, especially in the mountains, bring destructive hailstorms. The northern coastal region presents a sharp contrast. The high Elburz Mountains wring moisture from the clouds, trap humidity from the air and create a semitropical climate. Temperatures may soar to 38c degrees and humidity to 98%.
CLOTHING: winter - medium weight with topcoat. Summer - lightweights & warmer clothing for evenings in the mountains. Women should respect Islamic dress code.
