In general Costa Rica has a moderate type of temperature. Costa Rica can be split into 3 main climatic types: wet tropics, tropical climate with dry season and temperate climate.
WET TROPICS: the north eastern plains, the Caribbean, the surrounding areas of el general, golfo dulce and the western base of the mountain areas. These are characterized by high temperatures.
TROPICAL CLIMATE WITH DRY SEASON: this is found on the Nicoya peninsula and central valley with its moderate temperatures usually over 17 degrees.
TEMPERATE CLIMATE: usually found above 1400m and on the eastern slopes of the volcanic range. Rainfall is heavy, with a dry season from February to April.
CLOTHING: lightweight cottons & linens throughout the year, warmer clothes for cooler evenings. Rainwear is necessary during the rainy season.
