Weather in Sri Lanka
The climate is typically tropical in the lowlands with temperatures of 27 degrees. In the highlands temperatures may fall to 16 degrees. Sri Lanka receives rainfall from two monsoons and from convectional precipitation. The north east monsoon rains occur in December and January. From May to July the south, west and central regions receive rain from the southwest monsoon. Even when monsoon winds blow their strongest, the other side of the island will be calm and sunny. Frost may occur in January and February, although it is very rare.
CLOTHING: lightweight or tropics all year round. Cotton is recommended. Comfortable shoes are advisable. The briefest swimwear is acceptable on the beach many women go top less in resorts even though it is illegal. Immodest dress, such as shorts, should be avoided in towns. Men should wear a business suit or a safari suit in the evenings and women should also dress up properly.
